Here's a thirty point review for a renewable society on the beach/desert/mountains/plains/cities- anywhere in the world. (submitted by David Spoey)
1. Our physical universe and ourselves are composed of matter. which is essentially frozen light. Humans, we are systems of interacting light energy.
2. Matter is basically compressed energy. A photon is a miniscule puff of energy- the little balls of light energy we perceive with our retinas.
3. Energy is needed for life, civilization, transport, nourishment, progress, and justice. Energy and change are two universal constants- that's why we must remain dynamic- ready for anything.
4. There are different kinds of energy on Earth: radiant energy (photons) like solar light waves, kinetic energy like blowing winds or surging water, potential energy like in a spring, thermal energy as in hot coffee, electrical energy which powers our appliances, gravitational energy which rides us to the ground, chemical energy inside bonds between the atoms in an ethyl alcohol molecule (CH3CH2OH). I don't know if you are familiar with CH3CH2OH, but it is an unbelievable antiseptic- that means it kills germs. It eats through bacteria membranes like Whoa!
5. The lucky people recognize the energy of their soul/spirit. There are some who say the only things worthwhile are not expressible, because they are matters of the soul. I disagree.
I think anything you deem as worthwhile, therefore becomes worthwhile for you. If you can discover the loving cosmic duality, boundless euphoria, and raging contentment swirling around you in this abundant universe- you will realize it is downright magic rouund hur. I think many people already believe this. The world is our global family farm; we are the proclaimed masters of biological progress and destiny- through our CULTural technology. What we reap on the farm, LIKE ANY FARM, we shall sow. If you plant goodness and virtue, you shall harvest virtue, because goodness is temporary- in the situation. Virtue is timeless- universal! 6. How does our current civilization produce energy? Our country's current favorite methods involve fossil fuel combustion or nuclear fission. We currently rob lands for hydrocarbons like coal and oil, burn black tar and coal to boil water to turn a turbine containing an electric coil through a magnetic field to produce a current through the electric coil. Our current civilization is a hydrocarbon combustive economy.
7. The stone age didn't end because we stopped using stones, and the petroleum age shall not stop because we end our oil usage. Fossil Fuels are a valuable resource to mankind- and has provided much affluence for countless humans in the past centuries. Yet wisdom tells us we must look to sustainable technologies, clean for the environment, safe, renewable, and powerful. Prudence suggests we transform our energy infrastructure towards carbohydrate and electromagnetic energy. The only thing we should combust is hydrogen, and we can drink the exhaust- it is dihydrogen monoxide. Electricity should fuel our transportation. Cars kill 50,000 Americans a year. We need to put a networked electromagnetic pod system on top of the current road system. Now, before you get all hissy about "You can't have my car!!" keep on reading and I'll detail later on.
8. Advances in renewable technology and nanotechnology will quickly make the coming decades the renewable energy revolution (RER). What are these renewable technologies? Wind fuel (high altitude arrays, , water (tide, current, wave, OTEC- Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion) energy, solar energy (thermal, thin film, photovoltaic, passive), biomass (hemp biofuels or electrical generating bacteria), and geothermal energy. The great thing about renewable energy is its inherent decentralization. If you can supply all the wind/water/geothermal/solar/biomass energy, water, hydroponic food, and fiber you need from your land, what do you really need to buy from the grid? It sounds weird, but in 20 years Renewable Society Buildings (RBS) will be common, clean energy producing structures. Top level for solar energy producing hydrogen or electricity, rain catching, tanning/swimming, and biomass energy production. Bottom level would be an optional open floor with intensive hydroponic/LED gardens, social gatherings, classes, visual/audio media displays, and wireless internet interfaces. Pico Wind turbines shall cover the outside of the building, providing contant power. The materials used for building are renewable too: carbon nanotube structure and wiring (from biowaste) embedded in biopolymers (obtained from hemp), surrounded by silica aerogel insulation (from sand=silica dioxide).
9. Current American politicians subsidize the oil, coal, and nuclear industries, while giving lip service to solar and biofuels (mostly drunk on ethanol). They warn of a coming energy crunch, yet they don't mention that we are MADE of energy! For example
Why aren't we using renewable energy technology yet? Why are we instead pursuing anti-sustainable paths of development? There's no easy answer, but oil, coal, and nuclear are centralized energy production methods. Wind, solar, water, biomass, biofuels- these are all very decentralized- especially solar and wind. Exxon Mobil, the biggest oil corporation in the world, made over 7 billion dollars in profit last quarter, $25 billion PROFIT a year. That is 25 billion Wendy's salads. Oil is money, it really is black gold in Pax Americana. Yet it is a finite resource, and is getting much more scarce as demand steadily rises from China, India, and the rest of the capitalistic world. Yet as we live in a capitalistic society, we must turn to the most economic energy technologies, which will soon prove to be the renewable ones, all costs included.
10. Money is a great instrument of freedom, as it allows strangers to efficiently exchange value and goods. It provides information in a asymmetric world. It provides impetus for expansion and hard work. Yet the concept of money must change to reflect its role as a servant of the people, rather than the master of the economy. Money and short term gain has corrrupted politics and corporations and religions, all supposedly people-serving institutions which now act for quarterly profits and GDP- massive consumption/production instead of happiness and health.
11. Good exists. God exists- he is us and the universe. When we hurt each other, we HURT GOD. When we love each, we LOVE GOD. It's that simple! We are little eddies in the great current of God. Being means Be-In-God. EVOL backwards is LOVE. We are called to cultivate enlightenment, fulfillment, and spirit in our Earthly evolving journey. You can see good in life and in your mind. Compassion, sacrifice, happiness, understanding, forgiveness, service, perseverence, the list of adjectives to describe the powerful benevolence of being are endless. Find your positive niche and cultivate your potential.
12. Evil Exists only as a shadowy mirror of good. It only exists in our minds, as a concept describing certain behavior. HUMANS INVENTED EVIL!! Therefore we must destroy its power. There's no such thing as cold, its just the absence of heat. Hate is just the absence of love. You can see The Shadow on the television, and in real life: Powerlust, Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt, Envy, Road rage, racism, hate, widespread violence, prejudice, and debasement. Ignore the shadow, shield yourself from anyone espousing its treacherous
13. All power lies with individuals. Individuals are intersections in biology, geography, sociology, history, and geneology. However insignificant we seem, we are simultaneous enormously important. Sometimes people function as another cog in the social machine, but ultimately the individuals determine society. When people awaken to realize each person unlimited power inside themselves, you will see justice springing from every sewer. Society only exists as an idea. But people exist as real flesh and blood. Governments, for all their laws and policies and servants, are composed of people like you and me. Corporations, for all their plans and workers, are led by normal humans (making over $10 million). Religions, for all their pontifications and dogma, are formed by people who are all naked under their clothes.

14. Information must be freed. Theoretically, all seven billion humans could be put into the same virtual reality or receive the same information AT THE SAME TIME, for little cost at all. Let's run that by again- soon information capacity will allow everyone in the civilized world to inhabit the same virtual space- via information networking. We will start building our global brain. Each man must work for himself- if he can, he must also work for humankid. One hundred years from now, our ancestors will look back at our society as violent; repressed; consumed with consumption over refinement and enjoyment; unsustainable; and utterly unaware of the newtopic society at our doorstep (with 20 years technological development).
15. The World is an enigmatic paradox. MTV and Nuclear bombs, whatever your opinion of them may be, will save the world. Simple Explanation: MTV unites the world through commercialism- which is marketingdelicious. Nuclear bombs unite the world through their deterrent effects. Mutually Assured Destruction has been proven by game theorists everywhere- its not a good option.

Let's see, children who do not sit test or sit well in the classroom are forced to take a stimulant medicine to concentrate. 26. When you pick up a paper and write a phone number down, you are a fyborg- a portmanteau of a creature who is a functional cyborg- mixture of organic and mechanical parts. Now as you sit glued to your screen typing email to your brother, you have become a virtual cyborg- a mechanical self in the computer- measured in electrons. We are therefore transcending primitive humanness through technology- that's why we wear clothes and don't sleep in the grass. That is the ultimate trend of our culture- and it continues today.
